“Big Hero 6” A Box Office Hit After Opening With $56.2 Million In Ticket Sales:

Disney’s animated “Big Hero 6” managed to out-duel the science-fiction epic “Interstellar” to claim the top spot at the box office, according to final figures released Monday.

“Big Hero 6” opened with $56.2 million between Friday and Sunday to land atop the North American box office, according to Rentrak. “Interstellar” was a close second, debuting with $47.5 million.

Ben Affleck’s “Gone Girl” moved back up in the rankings, collecting $6.2 million over the weekend, while the supernatural thriller “Ouija” fell to the fourth spot, with $5.9 million.

Brad Pitt’s war drama “Fury” placed fifth with $5.6 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “St. Vincent” ($5.4 million); “Nightcrawler” ($5.3 million); “John Wick” ($4.1 million); “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day” ($3.5 million); and “The Book of Life” ($2.7 million).

On Thursday, June 2, at 12:50 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the Sears Department Store, located at 302 Colorado Ave. in order to investigate a report of a theft involving a set of loudspeakers. When the officers arrived at the location they spoke with the loss prevention agents from Sears who told them that a man had entered the store, picked up the loudspeakers and run out of the store without paying for them. The loss prevention agents gave the officers a detailed description of the suspect and the officers went in search of this man.
