Nancy Fields O’Connor Dies Age 84 In Malibu:

Funeral services were pending today for Nancy Fields O’Connor, the widow of “All in the Family” actor Carroll O’Connor.

Nancy O’Connor died Monday at her home in Malibu at age 84, her brother, John, told the Missoulian newspaper in Montana. Nancy, who was raised in Missoula, met Carroll O’Connor while both were attending the University of Montana.

John Fields told the paper her sister had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for 10 years.

“Hospice was there and she just slowly stopped breathing,” Fields said. “It was very peaceful.”

Nancy and Carroll O’Connor were married in 1951 in Dublin, Ireland, where he was studying.

The couple adopted a son, Hugh, in 1962. He became an actor but was addicted to cocaine. He committed suicide in 1995.

Carroll O’Connor, forever remembered for his portrayal of Archie Bunker on “All in the Family,” died from a heart attack in 2001. He was 76.

Nancy O’Connor’s family asked that donations in her name be made to Melanoma Research, John Wayne Cancer Institute, St. John’s Hospital, 2121 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, 90404.
