Former Assemblyman Isadore Hall III Wins Senate Special Election:

Democrat Isadore Hall III will take office shortly as the state senator representing the 35th District after winning the special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Roderick Wright.

Hall received 55 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s election, according to semiofficial results released by the Secretary of State’s Office.

Businessman James Spencer, the lone Republican in the four-candidate field, was second with 25.9 percent of the vote, followed by Louis L. Dominguez, a retired classroom teacher (12.5 percent) and fellow Democrat Hector Serrano, a member of the Area Planning Commission for the Harbor area (6.5 percent).

“I am deeply humbled and sincerely thankful for the confidence placed in me by the voters of the 35th District,” Hall said at his election night party at the Doubletree by Hilton in Carson. “I take great pride in this sacred responsibility, and in being the voice of so many people and so many local neighborhoods in our state Capitol.”

By receiving more than 50 percent of the vote, Hall avoided a runoff and will be a member of the Senate when it reconvenes in early January.

Hall became the overwhelming favorite when then-Assemblyman Steve Bradford, D-Gardena, dropped out of the race in October and endorsed Hall.

Hall served in the Assembly from 2004 through last month. He was barred from seeking re-election last month because of term limits. He previously served on the Compton City Council and Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees.

The district includes much of Inglewood, along with parts of Long Beach, Torrance, Carson, Compton, Gardena, Hawthorne and Lawndale.

Wright, an Inglewood Democrat, resigned after being convicted of voter fraud for living outside the district.
