Strong Winds Sweep Across The Southland:

Strong winds swept across the Southland today. A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service was scheduled to be in force until 3 this afternoon in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys and both the San Gabriel and Santa Monica mountains.

Winds of between 15 and 30 miles per hour gusting to 45 mph were expected in the valleys, while 20-35-mph winds with 55-mph gusts were forecast for the mountains.

Wind gusts in the 40-mph range were recorded in the San Gabriel mountains early this morning, and a 38-mph gust was recorded at Leo Carrillo Beach, according to the National Weather Service.

The winds may affect travel on Interstate 5 in the mountains and the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, according to the NWS. In the Santa Monicas, the winds may have an impact on road traffic on Topanga Canyon, Malibu Canyon and Decker Canyon roads, as well as Kanan Road.
