Latest police, crime and courts news.

Los Angeles resident Chong Kwak, 61, has been identified by authorities as the man whose body washed up on Venice Beach on Monday afternoon, according to coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz.

Kwak apparently fell out of a inflatable boat near the mouth of Marina Del Rey, and his body washed up near Topsail Court, where the discovery was reported to authorities at about 1:45 p.m. Monday, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. Kwak was declared dead at the scene.

An autopsy was pending to determine the cause of Kwak’s death, Dietz said.

An inflatable boat was found nearby. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department was investigating the death.
