A blizzard warning in the Northeast today has led to 73 flight cancellations at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said.
As of 8 a.m., the cancellations included 27 arrivals and 46 departures, according to an LAX spokesperson. Travelers were urged to consult their airlines for specific flight information.
The warning was in effect today for coastal areas from New Jersey to Maine, where a “nor’easter” was expected to bring heavy snow and blizzard conditions, the National Weather Service reported.
Up to three feet of snow could fall in the region in the next couple of days, according to some estimates.
According to the NWS, a blizzard includes heavy snow and/or blowing snow; 35-plus mph winds or frequent gusts; and visibility of one-quarter mile or less, with some “whiteout” conditions that make it difficult to see and that can cause disorientation.
