Two Kayakers Rescued Off Malibu After Stiff Winds Blew Them Out To Sea:

Latest Malibu news.

Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards in a Baywatch boat located two kayakers in two separate craft, who had been blown in stiff winds out to sea off the coast of Malibu on Saturday.

The kayakers were reported missing at about 12:10 p.m. in the ocean off Pacific Coast Highway and Latigo Canyon Road, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Art Marrujo.

Malibu’s east-west coastline has been wracked by 50-mph-plus winds blowing straight to the south all day.

The lifeguards located the kayakers and “assisted them in paddling back to shore” by 1:10 p.m., Marrujo said. There were no injuries.

Two Coast Guard helicopters and choppers from the Los Angeles County fire department were en route to Malibu when the kayakers were spotted by Baywatch.

In November, six kayaks were blown out to sea west of Malibu, and some were rescued by offshore commercial fishing boats.
