A pickup truck hit a power pole on Kanan-Dume Road north of Malibu today, causing electric lines to droop and putting a further crimp into access to the coastal city.
Southern California Edison crews worked to replace the pole and rehang powerlines, but one of the two lanes on the cross-mountain highway between Agoura Hills and Malibu would likely be blocked until about 9 p.m., CHP officers at the scene said.
The crash was reported to the CHP at 7:23 a.m., and occurred just to the north of the sets of dual tunnels that carry the road across the Santa Monica Mountains.
Lines drooped over the southbound, uphill lane of the two-lane road, south of Sierra Creek Road. Traffic was being alternated on the other side of the road.
There was no word on the fate of the pickup truck’s driver.
The crash was about 5 miles south of the Ventura (101) Freeway and 8 miles north of Pacific Coast Highway. Kanan-Dume Road is the only open highway link between western Malibu and the 101 Freeway, due to the long-term closure of PCH due to storm damage at Point Mugu.
