Bail was not granted to a 32-year-old man on Monday, Feb. 16, after stealing shoes from the Skecher’s shoe shop on the Third Street Promenade.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to Skecher’s at 1343 Third Street Promenade at 9:10 pm in order to investigate a report of a theft.
When the officers arrived they spoke with store employees who told them that a man had entered the store and had selected two pairs of shoes and left the store without paying for them.
The employees added that they had stopped the man as he was attempting to exit the store and had asked him to either pay for the merchandise or leave them inside the store before he left.
The employees stated that the man had responded by saying, “What do you want to do? You wanna catch a fade?” (The phrase, “You wanna catch a fade” is street slang that in plain English is a way of asking someone if they would care to participate in physical combat).
The employees said that they recoiled in fear for their safety after the individual had issued that challenge, and that the suspect had walked out of the store while they called the police.
The officers went in search of the suspect and soon spotted him at the corner of Fifth St. and Wilshire Blvd.
This man (place of residence unknown) was positively identified by the Sketcher’s staff members and arrested before being charged with robbery and violation of post release community supervision order for the robbery.
Bail was not granted.
