700 Students Flock to Santa Monica Beach, Aquarium Today:

Heal the Bay hosted LAUSD students at the beach on Wednesday in the name of eco-education. For some kids it was there first time at the beach.

Approximately 700 2nd to 5th grade students from under-served schools in Los Angeles County will visit the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and the beach today for a day of ocean fun and interactive learning games at Heal the Bay’s Coastal Cleanup Education Day form 9:30 am to 1 pm.

Students will learn about pollution prevention, explore the beach and tour Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium. The day includes a group beach cleanup, allowing students to make an immediate, positive impact on the coastal environment.

Heal the Bay is organizing Education Day today as part of its coordination of Coastal Cleanup Day in L.A. County, which is set for Saturday, Sept. 19.

For many of the visiting students, Ed. Day will be their first trip to the beach. The day is designed to connect them to the ocean and its importance to all of Southern California, with the goal of demonstrating how each student can play a role in watershed health.
