An autopsy was pending today on a man whose badly decomposed body was found along the rocks of Ballona Creek in Playa del Rey.
The unidentified body was found around 7:20 pm Sunday in a rocky area along the shore in the 6100 block of Ballona Creek, sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Gordon said.
Ed Winter of the coroner’s office said since the remains are decomposed, an autopsy will have to be conducted to determine the cause of death and the man’s identity. It wasn’t immediately clear when an autopsy would be conducted.
Sheriff’s officials said they were continuing to investigate the man’s death.
The body was discovered adjacent to a popular, heavily traveled bicycle path.
Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at 323.890.5500.
