A 44-year-old Modesto man was arrested Thursday, Sept. 24, after being found in possession of drug paraphernalia and burglary tools.
At 9:10 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on a routine patrol in the 500 block of California Ave. when they noticed two individuals (one male and one female) walking suspiciously close to a line of parked cars on the street. One of the subjects was walking with a bicycle.
Given that this area is considered to be a high crime zone, the officers decided to initiate an investigative stop on the two individuals.
Immediately after the officers had approached the pair the man began shouting at the officers in a confrontational manner, demanding to be told why they had been approached.
The officers spotted that this man had a small pocketknife upon his person and thus asked him if he would turn around and remove his backpack so they could search him.
The man agreed; the officers discovered he was in possession of drug paraphernalia, a mini bolt cutter, a wrench, and a screwdriver.
The officers decided that there was no plausible reason that this individual should possess such items at that time so they arrested this Modesto man and he was later charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and burglary tools, in addition to a violation of probation. Bail was set at $86,000.
