On Saturday, July 2, at 4:45 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the Nordstrom Department Store, located at 220 Broadway, in order to investigate a pair of suspected thieves who were in the custody of loss prevention agents at the store. When the officers arrived at the store they spoke with the loss prevention agents who told the officers what had happened. Allegedly, the duo had entered the store carrying their own bags (always a telltale sign apparently). The two individuals had then, in plain view of the casually dressed loss prevention agents, selected a variety of items from the display racks and put them into the bags that they had been carrying. The loss prevention agents followed this pair as they exited the store (without paying for the booty) and then pounced, surprising the alleged thieves before escorting them back into a secure room in the store. The police were then called. The officers also learned that the pair had been in possession of $284 worth of merchandise that they suspects had concealed inside their bags. This pair, one aged 18 and from Los Angeles, and the other a minor, were taken to jail, booked and later released after being cited for theft.
