Young People Creating Change:

Teen Girl Focus After YWCA Closure

The Church in Ocean Park will launch Young People Creating Change (YPCC) with a kick-off event Friday, July 22 from 7 – 9 p.m. Featuring spoken word performances by Get Lit and Poets4Progress, the free event includes a silent auction, music by Milo Gonzalez, and refreshments.

“This is a time of tremendous divisiveness in the world,” organizers said. “If you are a young person who wants to participate in a movement for positive change, the Church in Ocean Park welcomes you to its new Young People Creating Change (YPCC) program.”

YPCC seeks to empower LGBTQI young people, young people with disabilities, young people of color, and middle and high school girls to create positive change.

The program has recently made including teenage girls a priority following the closure of the YWCA Santa Monica/Westside on June 30. The established YWCA program for teen girls called Girl Central has been transferred to the Church in Ocean Park under the umbrella of YPCC.

All community members are invited to the kick-off at the church, 235 Hill St., Santa Monica.

For more information, go facebook.com/ypccsantamonica, email ypccsantamonica@gmail.com, or phone the church at 310.399.1631.
