Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was named Thursday the 2016 Coach of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.
In his first season leading the Dodgers, Roberts led the team to a Western Division title and an appearance in the National League Championship Series. He was named National League Manager of the Year, becoming the first Dodger skipper to win the honor since Tommy Lasorda in 1988.
He will be recognized at the 12th annual L.A. Sports Awards ceremony Feb. 27 at the Beverly Hilton.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim centerfielder was previously named the 2016 Sportsman of the Year, while nine-time Olympic track-and-field medalist Allyson Felix was named Sportswoman of the Year.
