On Sat., Jan. 28 from 2pm-6pm, Santa Monica Place will celebrate the Year of the Rooster with a Lunar New Year celebration. Known as the Spring Festival, the celebration will feature entertainment based on authentic cultural traditions such as the traditional Chinese Lion Dance, Korean Fan Dance, as well as a Chinese classical musical duo using native instruments, Stilt Walkers and a New Year’s Wishing Tree. Ideal for families, the Lunar New Year Festival is FREE and open to the public. For more information, please visit www.santamonicaplace.com.
“Lunar New Year is special to both our international tourists and local guests,” said Stephanie Eglin, Senior Manager, Marketing, Santa Monica Place. “We are thrilled to incorporate the significance of this holiday into Santa Monica Place’s shopping experience and this celebration will bring the community together and delight both children and adults.”
The New Year’s Wishing Tree will provide guests an opportunity to write their New Year wishes on a card to be placed in a red envelope then hung on the branches of the tree. Participation in the Wishing Tree is a $2 donation, with all proceeds benefiting Families with Children from China Southern California (FCC SoCal), a non-profit organization that is an advocate for adoptive families throughout the Greater Los Angeles area and Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
An event designed for the whole family, the Lunar New Year celebration will include children’s arts and crafts including making lanterns, roosters and coloring a Lunar New Year calendar, a balloon twister, Chinese Dough Artist and a festive photo moment that will be available for guests to take their own photo and capture the magic of the Festival. In addition, the celebration will highlight retailer specials and offers good for the entire weekend (available at Center Plaza during the event and at the Concierge Lounge).
