Senator Ben Allen Issues Statement on Charlottesville

Senator Ben Allen

Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) issued the following statement in response to the recent events in Charlottesville:

“The neo-Nazi, white supremacist rally in Charlottesville and its aftermath have left many of us feeling anger, sadness, and fear.  The rally organizers’ ideology of anti-Semitism and racism and the resulting violence from these repugnant views are unequivocally abhorrent.

“As a Jewish person, an elected official and a human being, let me be clear: there are no two sides to this. There is no moral equivalence between those who embrace hate, and those who oppose it.

“Today, on the day of her memorial, my heart goes out to the family of Heather Heyer and I wish the other 19 others injured a speedy recovery. In their honor, and in the honor of the many others who have suffered from and fought courageously against violent extremism, let us work towards building a society where the strength of diversity, love and mutual respect always prevail over hate.”
