12,000-square-foot space features some exhibits exclusive to L.A. area
The Museum of Illusions opened at 1232 Third Street Promenade, bringing more than 80 optical-illusion and interactive exhibits to the heart of downtown Santa Monica.
The 12,000-square-foot attraction is the 64th location for the global chain and its second in California, following San Diego. It includes several exhibits created specifically for the Santa Monica site, such as a rockabilly-style “following eyes” mural, a climbable California Art Deco hotel façade and a reversed room inspired by a vintage Hollywood bowling alley.
Other highlights include the Vortex Tunnel, Cloning Table and Ames Room, which alters visitors’ perceived size through angled walls and forced perspective.
The museum operates daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with the last entry one hour before closing.
