Topanga Canyon Closure Extended as Storm Threatens Slopes and Floods SR-27

Caltrans Says Saturated Hillsides and Recurring Storm Cells Will Keep SR-27 Shut

State Route 27 in Topanga Canyon will remain closed until further notice as persistent storm cells continue to saturate hillsides and trigger flooding along the corridor, transportation officials said Monday.

Caltrans District 7 confirmed that the closure stretches from Grand View Drive to Pacific Coast Highway, with engineers stationed on-site to monitor slope stability and roadway conditions.

Authorities said the combination of runoff, unstable soil, and repeated bursts of heavy rain has made it unsafe to reopen the canyon to traffic.

The shutdown is expected to continue overnight, and crews will reevaluate conditions Tuesday morning to determine whether it is safe to lift the closure. Until then, motorists are urged to avoid the area and check the state’s traffic map for real-time updates at QuickMap.dot.ca.gov.
