Black History Greens Festival Returns to Virginia Avenue Park This Weekend

The free community event is part of the city’s Black History Month celebration. The 2026 theme, “Boots on the Ground,” honors community and culture.

The city of Santa Monica, in partnership with the Black Santa Monica Community Group, will host the 11th annual Black History Greens Festival on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Virginia Avenue Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The free community event is part of the city’s Black History Month celebration. The 2026 theme, “Boots on the Ground,” honors community and culture.

Festivalgoers can attend three greens cooking demonstrations led by local chefs and enjoy family-friendly activities, including book readings and giveaways, live performances, vendors and wellness information booths.

Arron “BOBO” Arnell of KJLH Radio will return for a second year as master of ceremonies. DJ Dense will provide music throughout the event.

Scheduled activities include music, dance and singing performances, including a return appearance by Nichelle Monroe. Caleb Crump will lead line dances such as “Boots on the Ground,” “Can’t Get Enough,” “Cupid Shuffle” and “Wobble.”

Attendees also can sample traditional soul food dishes provided by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and Virginia Avenue Park. The Santa Monica Public Library will distribute free books.

The event will feature a Kids Zone with crafts and a trivia game with prizes, as well as a variety of community resource booths and vendors.
