Pali Hoops Girls Start Fast:

The Palisades High girls basketball team, who reached the semi-finals of the LA City Section Invitational Tournament last season, is off to a fast start this season. The team, coached by Torino Johnson, has won three of its first four games.

Included was a 56-18 rout of defending CIF champion Crossroads in the Palisades Tournament. Crossroads didn’t have some key players, but the Dolphins’ margin of victory was still impressive. Pali also played strong defense – in the second quarter Crossroads didn’t score a single point.

Palisades’ other victories were 38-33 over Notre Dame Academy and 38-19 over Bell. The loss was to Marymount, 53-39.

Senior Dominique Scott was named first team all-city last season. Nicole Flyer has scored in double figures twice. Point guard Keseniya Shevchak is an impressive sophomore.

Palisades finished third in the Western League last season before making its impressive tournament run.
