New Assistant City Manager:

Jennifer Phillips, will be the new Santa Monica Assistant City Manager, as she will replace Gorden Anderson, who is retiring.

Phillips will oversee the external services departments of Big Blue Bus, Community & Cultural Services, Housing & Economic Development, Library, Planning & Community Development, and Public Works. City Manager, Lamont Ewell, also mentioned that Phillips will also be responsible for citywide programs and initiatives dealing with “Operational issues”.

As the Executive manager for Orange County, Phillips, who has worked for over 24 years in public administration also developed policy recommendations for top city officials. In the past five years, Phillips has led OC Animal Care and implemented important organizational change, efficient operations, and developed high quality, customer friendly programs and services.

Before Phillips’ stint with the County of Orange she was a recycling specialist for LA County Sanitation District, principal financial analyst with OCTA (Orange County Transportation Authority), and an assistant to the city manager with the city of Fullerton, in the County of Orange.

Phillips is an active member of the International City/County Management Association, the Preparing the Next Generation Working Group, and is currently Vice-Chair of Women Leading Government. She has a Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s in Public Administration degrees from Cal State University, Long Beach.
