State Senator Fran Pavley was elected to her first term as a State Senator last November and her decision to locate her District office in Santa Monica has made it much easier for residents to have access to the services offered by the office.Pavley’s office currently has a staff of five people. Rebekah Rodriguez-Lynn is the office’s District Director. She will focus on healthcare, education, child welfare, and Santa Monica issues. The office’s Senior Field representative, Stephanie Molen, will concentrate on environmental and water issues while another field representative, Aron Miller, will handle issues for the San Fernando Valley, Las Virgenes, Oxnard, and Port Hueneme portion of the District. Miller will also act as Pavley’s transportation deputy and will handle transportation issues such as the Phase 2 Exposition Light Rail that is projected to be available in Santa Monica in 2015. The office staff also includes caseworker Steve Lane who formerly worked with former 23rd District State Senator Shelia Kuehl. He told the Mirror that he would work with District constituents on issues related to any state agency such as unemployment benefits or DMV issues. He also will work closely with Congressman Henry Waxman on crossover issues that are funded by both the state and federal government such as SSI benefits. He has also established the office’s internship program.Laurie Cohn is the office manager and her duties include supervising the interns and coordinating on administrative issues with Pavley’s Sacramento office.The District office will also, according to the offices At Your Service “brochure, be able to help constituents obtain “funding for local projects, such as bikeways, parks, schools, or senior citizen programs, bring state experts into your community for technical assistance or advice on local issues, help communicate your concerns to local, state and federal officials, bring state administrators into your community so they hear first-hand about local needs, and visit your neighborhood or groups to discuss state legislation or programs.”Other services that will be available from the District office include information on existing or proposed state laws. The office can give constituents information on “copies of legislation and laws, status of legislation, bill summaries by issue area, analyses of legislation, legislative counsel opinions on state laws and legal issues, legislative committee rosters, and information on other legislators and the legislative process.” They also have handbooks and brochures available on a variety of subjects such as consumer protection and small business assistance.Pavley’s office address is 2716 Ocean Park Boulevard, Suite #3088, Santa Monica, CA 90405.
