Former Samohi Football Player Says He’ll Play for SMC:

Former Santa Monica High football star C.J. Woods, who was a reserve safety at UCLA last season, said he will transfer to Santa Monica College for the coming season.

It would not be the first time Woods has left one school for another.

He was a prized running back and linebacker at Samohi and was being counted on for a grand senior season. But on the day of the opening game in 2007 he abruptly transferred to Crespi High in Encino.

That was the beginning of several transfers that prompted Samohi athletic director Norm Lacy to file a complaint against Crespi with the CIF for luring Westside players. The complaint included information from Malibu High coach Ray Humphrey after one of his key players also transferred to Crespi.

A recent check with the CIF drew the response that the complaint was under investigation.

At UCLA Woods was charged with four counts of battery and two of sexual battery, all misdemeanors, by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office for three incidents in off-campus apartments.

Last week UCLA issued a press release saying he is no longer a member of the team.

Woods said UCLA wasn’t a good fit for him and he intends to play this season at SMC, then transfer to another Pac-10 school.

SMC won its conference four years ago but has had little success since then.
