Walker Continues With Samohi Despite Erroneous Report:

When Santa Monica High softball coach Debbie Skaggs was told what was written March 17 in the South Bay Daily Breeze her response was immediate.

“Not true,” she said.

In an Ocean League softball preview, the Daily Breeze reported that star pitcher Celisha Walker isn’t playing for Samohi this season.

The article went on to quote the Hawthorne High coach saying Samohi remains the league favorite, but is less likely to be dominant.

Hawthorne has its best team in five years. Culver City has won its first six games, giving rivals hope that Samohi can be dethroned. The Vikings have won the league championship the last four years.

Samohi has played a tough schedule and has a 6-3 record. Walker pitched 24 of the team’s first 25 innings and also has the highest batting average on the team.

“She was awesome in the Max Preps tournament,” said Skaggs.

Walker was the Ocean League Player of the Year last season. She’s one of four Viking seniors who have received college scholarships.
