Alley Cat
Tuesday, April 20, 11:15 p.m. Officers heard a radio message that told them that someone was yelling in the alley east of the 1400 block of 17th Street, so they went there. When they arrived they found the yeller, and began to speak to him. The yeller did not want to talk with the cops, and was apparently “uncooperative” by refusing to obey the officers’ instructions. This guy then, in his infinite wisdom, and for no apparent reason, picked up a bottle of wine and threw it at a wall. He then decided to approach the cops in an aggressive manner, and these two actions, along with other signs that the officers had been trained to recognize, suggested to the cops that this guy was intoxicated. The cops restrained this man, and then arrested this 37-year-old man for public intoxication. Upon further investigation, officers discovered that the suspect had six warrants for his arrest. The warrants were for public intoxication, and possession of a shopping cart (probably possession of the cart some distance away from the store, from where it belonged). His bail is $14,000.
He Made A Hash Of It
Thursday, April 22, 9:10 p.m. Patrolling cops were flagged down by other department personnel regarding a vehicle that was parked in the 2600 block of the beach, after sunset. When the department person had advised the people in the vehicle that they had to leave, he had smelled a very strong odor of marijuana, or “pot,” as it’s more popularly known. Officers watched this car exit the parking lot and then commit a series of vehicle code violations (a case of “reefer madness?”). The cops stopped this vehicle at Barnard and Nielson Way, and went up to the car, whereupon they too smelled the smoke of the pot. Further investigation revealed that there was a stun gun, tire iron, and wooden baton accessible to the driver and passenger. Statements made by the passenger led the officers to believe the instruments were there for personal protection. A male, aged 24, of Reseda, was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon and interfering with police officers, and another male, aged 37, of Encino was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon and failure to provide DNA. Their bail is $20,000.00.
The Man In The White T-shirt
Saturday, April 24, 1:00 a.m. Officers noticed a man wearing a white T-shirt drive into the parking lot in the 2800 block between Nielson and Main Street, whilst he was holding a cell phone and talking. Police training kicked in, and the cops had a hunch that there was more to this than just that simple violation, so they watched the vehicle park, and after several minutes, nobody had exited the car. As officers approached the vehicle on the passenger side, they observed a female in the driver’s seat and the male with a white t-shirt in the passenger seat. The cops also noticed that the man in the white T-shirt appeared to be drunk. This guy refused to comply with requests to perform balance and coordination tests, so the cops arrested this 24-year-old for driving while under the influence, obstruction of justice, probation violation, driving while using a wireless cell phone ,and a warrant. The female who was in the driver’s seat, aged 20 of Westchester, exited the vehicle, and had an open can of beer in her possession. She was arrested for public intoxication and possession of an open container in public. His bail is $50,520 and her bail is $250.
