Alert: Police Blotter:

Stoned Love

On Saturday, July 24, at 10:20 a.m., officers went to the 2900 block of Delaware Avenue in response to a domestic violence incident that was in progress. When they arrived, the cops heard the sound of yelling emanating from the residence, a sign that there was indeed a domestic violence incident in progress, so they announced to the people in the residence that they (the police) were there.

The woman of the couple left the residence and told the officers that nobody else was in the residence, but shortly afterwards the man of the couple exited the building and became confrontational with the cops. They then both told the officers that there was nobody else in the residence. The cops decided to take a look in the residence anyway, and discovered and found numerous marijuana plants and devices to cultivate marijuana. Having weeded their way to the truth, the officers then arrested these two people, a 21-year-old Santa Monica woman for inflicting injury on a cohabitant, cultivating marijuana, and obstruction of justice; and a 25-year-old Santa Monica man for cultivating marijuana and obstruction of justice. Respective bails: $50,000 and $30,000.

From Minor To Major

On Thursday, July 22, at 9:45 p.m., officers received a call about a man who had been described as an “intoxicated subject” who was challenging people to fight in the 1300 block of 4th Street, so they went there. Upon arrival, the cops spotted this guy who, upon being spotted, shouted an obscenity and ran away.

The cops followed this dodging challenger as he continued to run away. Eventually they located him hiding beneath a vehicle in the 1300 block of Second Street, but he responded to their requests for him to come out from under the vehicle by launching into a tirade of unintelligible nonsense. Officers were however able to extract this person from under the vehicle and after doing so detected the usual (in these cases) odor of alcohol upon this man’s breath, his clothes, and in fact every atom of his being, it apparently seemed. The officers decided to arrest this fellow for the relatively minor charge of public intoxication, and began to escort him to the police car.

The suspect was assisted to the vehicle by the officers (because he was too drunk to perform this rudimentary function alone) and when the officers began to search him for weapons he kicked at the officers, striking one of them in the leg. This transformed the aforementioned minor charge into the major charges of for assault and battery on a peace officer, obstruction of justice and public intoxication. Bail: $20,000.

Framed?

On Saturday, July 24, at 12:32 a.m., officers were conducting a periodic check in the 1600 block of Lincoln Boulevard when they observed a woman approach the front window of Aaron Brother Art and Framing store. She began to pick and scrape at some of the decals that were adhered to the window of the store so the officers approached the woman and enquired with her as to the purpose of her activity. The woman told the cops that she knew that what she was doing was wrong, but was a fan of Abraham Lincoln, and was interested in a decal that featured him. Officers arrested this 52-year-old Santa Monica woman for petty theft, probation violation, and a warrant. Bail: $15,000.
