Crossroads Searching for Baseball Coach:

Crossroads School is looking for a new baseball head coach following the resignations of longtime coaches Matt Amido and Pat Armstrong.

Both Amido, who coached 11 years, and Armstrong, who coached five, were paid “walk-ons” who had careers outside of coaching and did not also teach classes, according to Crossroads Athletic Director Chuck Ice. They announced they were stepping down Sept. 20.

“They make their living outside of school, so with the economic times the way they are, they needed to devote their time to their primary income sources,” Ice said.

Under Amido and Armstrong, Crossroads baseball has had success. Last season, the Roadrunners had an 19-8 record overall and went undefeated, 8-0, in the Delphic League before reaching the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs.

This spring, the team will compete in the “stronger” Alpha League, Ice said, and the Roadrunners will also be seeded in a higher division for CIF playoffs.

“They were good people and we’ll miss them,” Ice said of Armstrong and Amido.

Crossroads has advertised for the coaching vacancy and is receiving applications.

“We’ll be interviewing in the next two weeks and hope to have a new coach within a month,” he said.
