Two Santa Monica women jumped and beat a 17-year-old Santa Monica girl, who the attackers thought was somebody else, at a bus stop on Wednesday, June 1, at 2:38 p.m.,
Offficers of Santa Monica Police Department went to a bus stop located in the 700 block of Pico Boulevard after they had received a report of an assault and a strong-arm robbery that had just occurred. When they arrived the officers spoke with the victim, a 17-year-old female. She told them that she had just left school and was walking to the bus stop. When she arrived at the bus stop an unknown female assailant suddenly attacked her from behind.
The victim was struck several times in the face and body by this from-behind-attacker, who then proceeded to kick her in the head. The suspect then fled the scene, accompanied by a second suspect who happened to be a female that the victim knew from school. The officers instigated and located the suspects. They discovered that the 17-year-old had been the victim of mistaken identity.
The attacking suspect had intended to commit the same assault on somebody else (as we all know, this is no excuse at all for such anti-social behavior). The officers eventually arrested the suspect on the afternoon of June 9, in the 1800 block of 14th Street. The suspect, a 24-year-old Santa Monica woman, was taken to jail where she was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and participation in a criminal street gang. Her bail was set at $70,000. No charges have been filed on the second suspect, and the case is still under investigation.
