Samohi Wrestlers Win Division Titles, Go for State Honors:

Competing in the Central Division CIF Finals, the Santa Monica High School wrestling team finished sixth out of 45 teams, and two team members, Alex Darkhovsky (154 lbs.) and Dylan Giagni (162 lbs.) won their division titles, and CIF championships.

Darkhovsky had two pins and two tech-falls to claim his title, while Giagni had one tech-fall and four pins to claim his title. He was also given the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award, for the Central Division.

Other outstanding performances were turned in by Yusaf Syed (137 lbs.) who had an impressive second day, winning the consolation finals and placing third. Sunbar Mims (191 lbs.) also put together a good second day, defeating the wrestler who defeated him the previous day to win fifth place.

At the CIFSS Masters Meet at Fountain Valley High School over the weekend, both Darkhovsky  and Giagni qualified for the State Finals held in Bakersfield this coming weekend.
