Original Catwoman Julie Newmar To Explain Life On Earth At Santa Monica Library On Saturday:

Perhaps best known for her role as the original Catwoman on the hit TV series “Batman” in the 1960s, Julie Newmar has now turned to writing and has just released her first book, “The Conscious Catwoman Explains Life on Earth.”

With so much buzz in the media about the upcoming latest incarnation of Catwoman by Anne Hathaway in “Dark Knight Rises,” it was coincidental, but at the same time an almost “purrrrfect” time for her to release the self-help book.

Anyone wanting to meet Newmar in person will have their chance this Saturday, Oct. 15, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Santa Monica’s main library branch.

The hysterically brilliant, Bruce Vilanch will conduct a Q&A with the ever statuesque Newmar at the event.

Newmar, who lives in Brentwood, has several books in the works, but this one, about 10 years in the making, is the first one she has completed.

“It was: polish, polish,” Newmar said. “Trim, rewrite. Find an agent, agent wanted money, money. Find a publisher, publisher imploded… in these dire times. Finally decided to self-publish. I did all the design, layout, artwork, photographs, and the cover. It is the best cover I have seen in five years.”

The book is a compilation of wonderful “tid bits of information, inspirational thoughts, and practical advice” for daily living that she has collected and experienced over her lifetime.”

She has created the “how to” book to empower others to be the very best they can be.

She said the book is currently available on Amazon and at www.julienewmar.com.

“It’s really not an e-book,” she said. “Nor is it a book that you read. You digest it, like a recipe book. It is definitely a keeper. You will have it for many years and give it to your children.”

Tickets are free to Saturday’s library event and will be released one hour prior to the program, until the supply is depleted. One ticket will be given per guest. Ticket seekers must be present to receive a ticket. A book sale and signing will follow Newmar’s presentation.

The library is located at 601 Santa Monica Blvd. For more information on the event, visit smpl.org or call 310.458.8600.
