Santa Monica Police Arrest Resident For Possessing Drugs In Public: APB: A Quick Note

On Thursday, Nov. 3, at 1:35 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on patrol in the 300 block of Santa Monica Boulevard when they observed a man riding his bicycle on the sidewalk. This act contravenes a Santa Monica municipal code, so the officers decided to stop him. As they were doing this they noticed that he had dropped a crumpled up piece of paper on the ground.

The officers wondered what this piece of paper was (could it be a telephone number, a note from a lover, or perhaps the receipt for a charitable donation?) so they picked it up to have a look. What they found inside the crumpled paper was some speed, or methamphetamine.

The officers arrested this man and during the pre-booking search they discovered a drug prescription that was written for another person. This 37-year-old Santa Monica resident was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, and being under the influence. His bail was set at $20,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
