Lost & Found: Abstracting Los Angeles 1945-1980, this exhibit features paintings, drawings, sculptures, and assemblages from obscure and known artists who used different media to interpret the abstract expressionist movement with a Los Angeles twist from Nov. 21 to Dec. 30. Peter Shelton: Eyehand, L.A. Louver presents a survey exhibition of sculpture by Peter Shelton from Nov. 19 to Dec. 30. Wall Works: The Walls Have Eyes, at the Santa Monica Museum of Art is its most extensive educational public art program, connecting acclaimed contemporary artists with the imaginations of local students. Kelly Barrie: Mirror House, a new, large-format photographic work created especially for Project Room One at the Santa Monica Museum of Art through Dec. 10. The exhibit includes drawing, dance, performance, and digital collage. Barrie’s work investigates the relationship between historical memory and aesthetic practice—in this case, using Hurricane Katrina as the backdrop. Tantra Song: Contemporary Tantric Paintings from Rajasthan, is a collection of 39 anonymous works from India, made from 1985 to 2009, on display through Dec. 10. Less is Matter, the Shoshana Wayne Gallery presents James Richards’ fifth solo show with the gallery through Dec. 23. “Health, Wellness & Pursuit of Happiness,” the highly regarded SMC Photography Department presents a student juried show through Dec. 2 in the SMC Photo Gallery, located on the second floor of Drescher Hall on the main SMC campus, 1900 Pico Blvd. A total of 75 images and two short movies were selected from 500 submissions to be included in the exhibit.
