Compost Giveaway To Be Held January 21 At Santa Monica City Yards:

The quarterly Compost Giveaway is a free event for Santa Monica residents.

The quarterly Compost Giveaway held by the City of Santa Monica’s Resource Recovery & Recycling Division returns on Saturday, Jan. 21, to encourage participation in the Yard Clippings Compost Collection Program.

Tons of compost made from the City’s green cart program will be given to Santa Monica residents on this day from 7 a.m. until it’s all gone.

The City is providing five large burlap coffee sacks of nutrient-rich compost per household.

Compost has been recognized as a valuable soil amendment for centuries.

Its use in gardens is an effective way to improve soil health, increase plant production, and reduce the use of water, chemical fertilizers, and pesticides.

Residents are asked to bring their own shovel, gloves, and containers if not using burlap bags.

It will be held at the City Yards, 2500 Michigan Ave, Santa Monica.
