New Upper School Director Named For Crossroads School For Arts & Sciences:

Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences has appointed Roxanne Zazzaro as its next Upper School Director effective July, 2012.

For the past seven years, Zazzaro has been the Upper School Head at Brooklyn Friends School (BFS), a pre-K through 12th grade independent Quaker School in New York. She began her career at BFS as the Head of Guidance and Learning Specialist in 1994, and became Upper School Dean of Students in 2001, before becoming Upper School Head in 2005.

“During her long tenure at Brooklyn Friends, Roxanne established herself as a consummate leader, bringing a diverse community of educators together to establish a strong Upper School, said Crossroads Head of School Bob Riddle. “She brings a wealth of experience and outstanding leadership, organizational, and communications skills to the position and I am delighted to welcome her to Crossroads”

Zazzaro holds a B.A. in English and Journalism from Virginia Intermont College, and received an M.S. in Special Education at Southern Connecticut State University. She also received a certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership from the University of New England. She began her career as a journalist, and upon moving into education spent two years teaching reading and study skills in private and parochial schools around the world, including in Kuwait, Chile and Columbia. She has also taught at Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut, and St. Margaret’s School in Virginia.

Among her many accomplishments at BFS:

• Creation of a seminar enrichment program

• Implementation of the International Baccalaureate

• Revision of faculty evaluation and mentoring programs

• Creation of a new community service curriculum and a global travel program

• Enrichment of the school’s diversity initiatives

• Design and implementation of programs for students with learning differences

In reflecting on her new career at Crossroads, Zazzaro shared that “From the first moment I stepped onto the Crossroads campus, I felt the warmth of a community, the excitement for learning and the respect and appreciation for each member of the community. I look forward to joining and embracing the remarkable, creative learning community of Crossroads School.”
