JAMS Theatre Company Presents Seussical The Musical Tonight Through Saturday:

JAMS Theatre Company presents SEUSSICAL the Musical tonight and Friday at 7 pm and Saturday at 2 pm and 7 pm.

The public is invited to join the mischievous Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and the tiny Whos of Whoville, as they bring 13 of the author’s classic tales to life on stage.

Directed by Dana Murphy and produced by Patti Braun, JAMS Theatre Company is an after school program made possible through grants from the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation and the JAMS PTSA, and through private fundraising.

It is open to all committed students without a fee.

SEUSSICAL is JAMS Theatre Co’s third production; this year 55 talented actors, singers, dancers and crew members from JAMS and SMASH are participating.

The Cat in the Hat joins a cast of everyone’s favorite Dr. Seuss characters, telling the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks.”

The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

Horton the Elephant who is “faithful 100 percent” faces a double challenge — not only must he protect the Whos, for “a person’s a person no matter how small” — but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible and flighty Mayzie La Bird.

Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the loyal and lovely Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.

Ultimately, friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

This whimsical extravaganza is backed by a myriad of musical styles, from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk.

Dr. Seuss’ sense of fun and wonder come through loud and clear, making this a musical that appeals to all ages.

Following last year’s hit GREASE, JAMS Theatre Company is excited to fill the auditorium again and again.

With memorable songs, high energy dance numbers, and colorful characters, you won’t want to miss SEUSSICAL.

When: Thursday, May 9 at 7 pm (Green Eggs featured characters); Friday, May 10 at 7 pm (Hams Featured Characters); Saturday, May 11 at 2 pm (Hams) and 7 pm (Green Eggs)

Where: JAMS Auditorium at 16th and Pearl in Santa Monica.

Cost: Tickets are available at the door. Adults are $10, students are $5.
