Engaged Couple Become An Enraged Couple, End Up In Santa Monica Jail: Alert Police Blotter: Love and Marriage.

An engaged homeless couple were both arrested Friday, May 24 after fighting each other in a Santa Monica alley, which included the use of a wine bottle as a weapon.

At 12:55 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the rear alley of the 1300 block of Euclid Street after being informed about a man and a woman who were fighting each other.

Upon arrival, the officers spoke with some witnesses who told the officers that the two fighters had run into the alley and were hiding in someone’s backyard a couple of buildings away.

The officers discovered the two fighters and found out they were engaged to become husband and wife (good start?).

They were also homeless.

The officers questioned these two people and soon realized that they were both lying about what had happened.

The officers then decided to speak with some witnesses.

The witnesses told them that the “engaged” couple had become the “enraged” couple after, during a verbal altercation, the fiancée had begun to strike the fiancé about the head several times with a wine bottle.

The fiancé had retaliated by punching his fiancée about the head and face with his clenched fists.

Both the fiancée and fiancé displayed injuries that required the attention of paramedics.

The officers arrested both of these people and charged them individually with domestic violence.

Each (the man aged 36, and woman aged 30) was granted bail of $50,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
