Pair Of 18-Year-Old Men Arrested For Hospitalizing Cab Driver:

Two 18-year-old men were arrested on Sunday, Oct. 6 after attacking a cab driver who needed to go to a local medical facility for treatment of suspected head trauma.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department turned on their lights and siren and sped to the area of Second Street and Broadway Avenue at 10:33 pm on this day after reports of a fight in progress.

They were informed the fight included a cab driver being kicked and punched.

By the time the police arrived the fight had broken up, but the officers spoke with the cab driver who pointed to two individuals who were walking away in a southerly direction on Second Street.

The officers hastened after these two suspects and ordered them to halt.

One of them obeyed, however the other ignored the officers, subsequent repeated requests to sit on the curb.

The suspect who was not complying appeared agitated, according to the officers.

A few moments later a police supervisor arrived at the location and ordered this man to comply, however the senior status of the supervisor did little to encourage the man who then became animated as well as agitated.

The officers approached this man and took hold of the suspect’s arms but the suspect resisted and pulled away, even managing at one point to break free of the strong arms of the law.

The supervisor and an officer eventually forced the suspect’s arms behind his back and they physically forced this man down to the curb where he sat in handcuffs.

The officers spoke with the victim who told them that at one point he had his head stomped on and also been kicked in the head.

The officers called paramedics, who transported the victim to a local medical facility for treatment of suspected head trauma.

The officers arrested an 18-year-old male person from Glendale and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon and a violation of probation. His bail was set at $30,000.

The officers also arrested the second suspect, also aged 18 years, and from Los Angeles, and he was charged with obstructing police officers.

The bail for this male person was set at $10,000.
