Nederlander To Fight For Right To Operate Greek Theatre:

The Greek Theatre’s long time management company is planning to fight for the right to continue operating the Griffith Park venue during a City Council committee meeting today.

Nederlander is in danger of losing its contract after operating the outdoor concert venue for the past 39 years. The Recreation and Parks Commission in October decided to go with Live Nation Worldwide’s bid proposal, which scored higher than Nederlander’s.

The commission’s recommendation will be considered today by the City Council’s Arts, Parks, Health, Aging and River Committee, with large crowds expected to show up in support of either proposal, as with earlier meetings.

Nederlander spokesman Eric Rose contends panelists made scoring errors when they rated Live Nation’s higher, saying their proposal actually guarantees 29 percent more revenue for the city.

Live Nation representatives say they are the ones who offer a more lucrative package, and said they outbid Nederlander “when considering their unrealistic revenue projections.”

Live Nation’s venues in Los Angeles include the Wiltern and the Hollywood Palladium. The company also ran the recent Made in America Festival at Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles.

Nederlander operates the Pantages Theatre and the City National Grove of Anaheim.
