Bicyclist Hit and Run on Ocean: Perpetrator at Large, SMPD Calls for Help:

Hit and Run

Santa Monica police are appealing for information on a bicyclist hit and run Wednesday afternoon.

This from SMPD:

The incident occurred on Ocean Ave involving a bicyclis at approximately 12:39pm.

The bicyclist was riding along Ocean Ave when it was rear-ended by a vehicle driving in the same direction.

The bicyclist complained of pain following the collision and based on the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) protocols for that scenario, the bicyclist was transported to a local trauma center.

Following the collision, the vehicle did speed away from the scene being chased by a witness to the collision, but the witness eventually lost sight of the hit and run vehicle.

The hit and run vehicle was described as a dark, possibly black Nissan with significant damage to the windshield from the collision.

The hit and run vehicle was driven by a female driver with a male passenger.  This is an active investigation as we follow up on all the available information and evidence.

"As always, we appreciate any help from members of the community who may have witnessed the collision and can provide additional details or may have information on the current whereabouts of the vehicle.  Anyone wishing to provide information can contact me directly," Traffic Investigator Jason Olson told The Mirror. 310.458.8954.
