Quick’s Take: Samohi Surf Team Heads for ISF Individual State Championships:

The Samohi Viking surf team has completed this year’s calendar of five Interscholastic Surf Federation (ISF) meets going head-to-head against seven other coastal high schools. Several Vikings are now headed to the ISF individual state championship meet at the South Jetty of Oceanside March 11-13. Junior Alex Silver finished the five regular meets ranked a very respectable 11th among the 73 men short board competitors and leads the Viking squad in ISF rankings. Shane Keckin is ranked 26th among the men short boarders, and did double duty, competing in body board, finishing ranked 15th. Sam Einstein had a great year. While he finished 35th in total league standings, he is the only Viking ever to advance to the final round of men’s short board and bring home a trophy in ISF’s most competitive division. On the women’s side, Gabby Fargo led the squad with a 22nd ranking in women’s short board, and Sarah Couturier was the highest ranked Viking long boarder at 21st in the league.
