Alert Police Blotter: April 24-28

By Tim Broughton

Turnkey Opportunity.

On Tuesday, April 18, at 7:19 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to investigate a report of a prowler who had been seen prowling in the 100 block of Fraser Avenue. The officers sped to the location and discovered a man who fit the description of the prowler. The officers detained this individual while they investigated. The officers discovered that this man had indeed been loitering around a property located on Fraser Avenue and had also been sleeping on some garden furniture situated in the garden of said property. Additionally, the officers discovered that this man was also in possession of keys to the building but it was unclear as to how the man had actually obtained these keys due to his explanation being rather suspect. The officers arrested this 24-year-old homeless man and he was later charged with prowling on private property and receiving stolen property (the keys). Bail was set at $5,000.

Unannounced Damage.

On Tuesday, April 18, at 2:44 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call informing them that a case of vandalism on a Big Blue Bus had occurred in the area of Fourth Street and Santa Monica Boulevard. The officers drove to the location and spotted the Big Blue Bus in question. The officers had been informed, while en route, that the suspect was still on the bus so the officers cautiously climbed on board and began to speak with the suspect. The officers noticed that one of the bus windows had been smashed and so they asked the suspect what had happened. The suspect said that he had been on his cellular phone when the driver of the bus had announced, via the bus intercom system, that they were approaching the next stop. He said that this announcement had upset him and that he had, as a result of hearing that the bus was approaching the next stop, been forced to smash the window of the bus. The officers arrested this 60-year-old Monrovia resident and he was later released on $500 bail after being cited for vandalism.

Man Carted Off To Jail.

On Wednesday, April 19, at 2:05 p.m. an officer of the Santa Monica Police Department was on a routine patrol on the 800 block of Broadway when he observed a man walking along the sidewalk pushing a shopping cart. This activity is a violation of a Municipal Business and Professional Code. The officer stopped and watched this individual for a few moments and concluded that this person was acting in a strange and unorthodox fashion. The officer deduced from the man’s behavior that he could well have been under the influence of narcotics or alcohol so the officer exited his vehicle and began to chat with the subject. This man admitted that he had been “taking drugs” so the officer arrested this 34-year-old homeless man and he was taken to jail. When the officer delivered this man to the jail the man was found to be on parole for possession of narcotics. This man was charged with public intoxication, possession of a shopping cart and violation of probation. Bail was set at $10,000.
