New Main Street Parklets Open at Ribbon Cutting Sunday

Three pilot parklet locations on Main Street open this Sunday offering new public space where people can gather, eat, and enjoy one of Santa Monica’s beloved commercial districts.

The ribbon cutting is happening this Sunday, June 25, at 10 a.m.

The parklets are open all day for SOULstice (11 a.m. – 7 p.m.), and thereafter for the community to enjoy. The ribbon cutting will include remarks from Mayor Pro Tem Gleam Davis with Councilmembers Sue Himmelrich and Terry O’Day also in attendance.

Help welcome three new public spaces to Santa Monica. The ribbon cutting follows the monthly Ride with the Mayor featuring Councilmembers Sue Himmelrich and Terry O’Day, and is before Main Street’s Summer SOULstice festival. The pilot parklets are located at:

  • Finn McCool’s, 2702 Main Street
  • Ashland Hill, 2807 Main Street
  • Holy Guacamole, 2906 Main Street

Santa Monica’s Main Street Parklet Pilot Program follows a national trend to convert street parking spaces into public space. The one-year pilot is a partnership with the Main Street Business Improvement Association and the local business operators, above, that will maintain each space. Each parklet is free and open to all members of the public to use and features bench seating, stand-up counters, plants, and additional furniture and activities provided by the local businesses. The goals of the pilot are to reimagine the potential of city streets, encourage walking and biking, foster neighborhood interaction, and support local businesses.
