Venice Gets First Wins of Baseball Season:

After losing their first seven games of the baseball season, Venice High began its Western League schedule by defeating Hamilton twice, 3-2 and 6-5.The Gondoliers lost non-league games to Marshall (11-4) and Peninsula (15-4) before beginning league competition.Max Alatorre is batting .353 and Darren Takade .345.Palisades, also of the LA City Section, improved to 6-3 overall with a 13-3 loss to El Camino Real, followed by victories in its first two Western League games. The Dolphins shut out Fairfax, 10-0 and 16-0.Johnny Bromberg is batting .500 and has pitched two wins. Austin Jones is batting .455 and Cole Cook has pitched two wins.Santa Monica High is 4-3 following a 7-5 loss to Banning and a 12-0 victory over Golden Valley of Santa Clarita.St. Monica has a 3-5 record, including 2-3 in league play after losing to St. Paul, 7-1 and Bishop Montgomery, 6-1.New Roads had two games last week. The Jaguars lost to Highland Hall of Northridge, 7-5, then routed Delphi Academy of Lake View Terrace, 20-1.Brentwood had won its first four games but began its Olympic League schedule by losing to Valley Christian of Cerritos, 13-4 and 6-5.Malibu defeated Northview of Covina, 4-2, then lost to the same team, 13-2. The Sharks then had a 15-2 win over Oxnard and a 13-3 win over Nordhoff for a 5-4 overall record, including 2-1 in the Frontier League.Brooks Fitch is batting .632.
