By Tim Broughton

After Hours Shopping.

On Monday, September 4, at 10:38 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call informing them that three individuals had been seen entering a business, located in the 600 block of Broadway, in a suspicious manner. The officers rushed to the location and were met by the reporting party who informed the officers that the suspects were still inside the business. The officers cautiously entered the business and discovered two people, a man and a woman, inside the store. The officers noticed that the business had been ransacked. The officers deemed that neither of these individuals had any business being inside the premises and so arrested the male, aged 33 and homeless, and the female, aged 36 and also homeless and each suspect was later charged with burglary and violation of probation. Bail was not granted to these suspects.

No Parking Permit.

On Wednesday, September 6, at 6:56 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a call for service at a residence in the area of 14th Street and Alta Avenue. The officers were told that a witness had seen a man forcing his way into a garage at the residence. The officers arrived at the location and noticed that the garage door had been forced open so they entered and saw a man standing in the garage holding a knife. The officers commanded this man to drop the knife to which he wisely complied. The officers took this 31-year-old resident of an undisclosed location into custody and he was later charged with burglary, possession of stolen property and outstanding warrants. Bail was set at $60,000.

 Headline News.

On Wednesday, September 6, at 3:43 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department who were on patrol in the area of Second Street and Broadway were flagged down by a victim who told them that he had been seated inside his car when a man had attempted to strike him with a large stick. The suspect was at that time still standing near this victim’s vehicle and still carrying the stick. The officers spoke with the suspect and deduced that this man was in an erratic and possibly disturbed state of mind. The officers learned that the victim had been delivering bundles of newspapers to racks and boxes in the area when the suspect had stood in front of his vehicle whilst brandishing the stick. The victim was able to drive around the suspect and park his vehicle in order to deliver his newspapers but before he had time to exit the car the suspect had approached and harassed the victim. The victim had asked the suspect to leave but the suspect responded by swinging the large stick at the victim. The victim was not struck by the attempted assault. Officers arrested the suspect, aged 31 and homeless, and he was later charged with assault. Bail was set at $20,000.

Two Suspects Bagged.

On Wednesday, September 6, at 2:21 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call informing them that a possible vehicle burglary was in progress in the 1300 block of Euclid Court. The officers hastened to the scene and when they arrived proceeded to scour the alley behind the building in question. The officers spotted two bags filled with merchandise located in the parking area of the building in addition to two bicycles that had been apparently thrown to the ground in haste. The officers then went in search of the two suspects and discovered them in the area of 12th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard. The officers detained these two suspects and took them back to the location where several witnesses said that it was indeed these two who had been breaking g into vehicles, removing property and placing the property into the two bags that the officers had discovered. The officers arrested these two men, one aged 21 and from Los Angeles and the other also aged 21 and from Los Angeles and they were later charged with burglary and violation of parole. Bail was denied for both suspects.
