The City is in the process of installing 123 security cameras – a Public Video Security System – on the Third Street Promenade, the alleys east and west of the Promenade and under and around the Pier, all at a cost of $1,310,000 for the purchase, installation and a five-year maintenance contract paid from the City’s General Fund. Although a specific operational date has not been announced, all of the cameras will be fully operational and connected to the City’s computer network “very soon,” according to Eric Uller, Lead Public Safety Systems Analyst. The allocation of cameras among particular locations has not been released, but the dark half-globe housings for the fixed cameras can now be seen along the venues. photo by Michael Rosenthal
