National Guard Leaves Santa Monica

Small number of troops to remain in area in case of emergency

The National Guard has left Santa Monica, a week after being called in response to civic unrest over the police killing of George Floyd and widespread looting.

According to the City of Santa Monica, the National Guard pulled out of Los Angeles County Sunday night. This means road closures have been removed, as well.

The National Guard was called into Los Angeles last week with civil unrest and protests underway over the police killing George Floyd. On Sunday, May 31, amid widespread looting in Santa Monica, the National Guard arrived on the Westside.

According to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, a small number of troops are still stationed nearby until June 10 to provide emergency support if needed to the Los Angeles County area.
