Rugby for Kids:

The Santa Monica Rugby Club is introducing the SMRC Youth Academy for kids.

Says Dominic Riebli, coach of the Youth Academy, “The growth in tackle rugby at the club has been phenomenal. Several of these players have requested to have more attention given to them to accelerate their growth and we can’t deny it. Initially the Academy members will consist of boy and girl tackle players from the SMRC U-16’s and U-19’s and from the two schools, View Park and Amino Venice, that are a part of the Santa Monica rugby program. Players accepted into the Academy will do the fitness program with the senior men’s and women’s team during the 10-week fall preseason. The youth tackle season begins in earnest in January. At that time academy members will have extra-sessions with our senior players when required. After last year’s success with first year players out of the Los Angeles Cougars High School team playing for the SMRC senior men’s team, we’re confident that several more of these talented players from our own academy will soon be feeding into our senior teams as well as rep sides.”
