A new affordable housing project has begun construction in Santa Monica as reported by Urbanize Los Angeles.

The new development will replace the Santa Monica Nikkei Hall at 1413 Michigan Avenue near Woodlawn Cemetery in the Pico Neighborhood.

This project is being developed by EAH Housing, “a non-profit corporation founded with the belief that attractive affordable rental housing is the cornerstone to sustainable, living communities.” The lot will keep the former structure’s community center and the new development, dubbed The Laurel, will be built and is meant to house low-income families and the formerly homeless. The new structure will have 58 units of affordable housing.
