Samohi Boosts Win Total During Spring Break:

Some high school baseball teams rest during spring break and others load up on tournament and non-league games, as no league contests are scheduled.

Santa Monica High chooses to play often, and the Vikings increased their victory total during the last two weeks.

Samohi split a doubleheader at Mira Costa, winning 4-1 after losing 7-6, routed Dominguez 15-0 and had a 4-0 win over Bell Gardens.

As Samohi returned to Ocean League play it had a 13-6 record.

The Vikings’ next home game is against Inglewood Thursday, April 19 at 3:15 p.m.

In the flurry of activity, the Vikings’ individual leaders changed. David Castellanos is now the team’s leading hitter at .467 and newcomer Casey Reese is second at .424.

Joe McGrew, an all-CIF left-handed pitcher, is 5-0 with 60 strikeouts in 40 innings. Devon Ramirez and Tyler Skaggs have both won three games.       Having played only two league games, both wins over Hawthorne, Samohi will now focus on Ocean League opponents in hopes of increasing their victory total to 20 and securing a playoff berth.
